A small-town Christmas is an important part of Americana. North-central Montana offers an abundance of small-town Christmas activities.
The season has been marked with visits to kids by Santa Claus, school concerts, community celebrations, Christmas tree lightings, parades, school plays and Nativity scene re-enactments.
Some new events took place this year but, while things change as years ago by, many of the area traditions of years past remain intact.
Those who have left the area but return to be with family at Christmastime find that many events are taking place just as they did when they were children.
The community Christmas tree, lit on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, still glows in the center of town just as it has done for years. Volunteers are ringing bells at the red kettles just as they always have. Chinook had its annual community gathering and parade right after Christmas, and the townsfolk, like Havreites, are putting on a community Christmas dinner.
On this page, we show some of the events that make Christmas special in our part of Montana.
We hope they evoke some memories of this Christmas season and earlier holidays.
The Havre Daily News wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season.
