Havre Hill-County Library hosts second annual Christmas hayride

"It was awesome, crazy and awesome again."

That was the summation 8-year-old Finnly Wiens offered at the conclusion of her ride through Havre on a horse-drawn wagon Saturday afternoon.

She was taking part in the second annual Christmas celebration and hayride in Havre sponsored by the Havre-Hill County Library.

Children could visit Santa Claus, eat cookies and other Christmas treats, take part in arts and crafts and enjoy a hayride through Havre in a horse-drawn wagon.

The horses were even more popular than Santa Claus.

Jack and Troy Solomon and their horses offered their services to the library so the children could enjoy an old-fashioned hayride through town. They seemed to enjoy the experience as much as the kids.

The wagon went down 3rd Street to the post office and came back to the library on 2nd Street.

"It was awesome," said Aiden Sorrensen, 7. "I saw parts of town that I never saw before."

Last year, library director Rachel Rawn said, there was such a crowd that people had to wait in a long line to get in the lone wagon. So this year, a second horse-drawn wagon was recruited, she said.

Some of the children were planning on taking in all the special activities Havre was putting on for the young people.

"Now I'm going to get on the train with Santa," said 4-year-old Moses Wiens.

A few blocks away, Santa was arriving at the Amtrak depot on a train. Moses was sure he was going to get on the train with him.
