Library reading series will focus on Montana

By Rachel Rawn

If you have been holding your breath waiting for some news out of the Havre-Hill County Library, well … you’re probably dead by now. Sorry about that.

If you have somehow remained alive to this point (maybe you weren’t holding your breath, that’s all right), we apologize for being lax in the column-writing department. We will do better, we promise.

Thank you to everyone who has been coming to our programs that are sponsored by Humanities Montana. Now it’s time to crack open the books for our annual Winter Reading Series.

This year the theme is “Montana.” We will be reading Montana books written by Montana authors, and we are proud to announce that all of the authors have agreed to come and talk with us about their books.

The Winter Reading Series is sponsored by Humanities Montana and the Friends of the Havre-Hill County Library. All discussions will be Thursday afternoons at 4 p.m. These are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

• Jan. 14: “Penny Postcards and Prairie Flowers” by Philip Burgess

• Jan. 28: “Guiding Elliot” by Robert E. Lee

• Feb. 11: “Survivors Said” by Matt Pavelich

• Feb. 25: “Montana: Then and Now” by Aaron Parrett

• March 10: “Montana 1864” by Ken Egan

Finally, it’s that magical time of the year again. The Winter Hayride is Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and will continue until 4 p.m. We have some fun activities planned while you wait inside and stay warm, including crafts and a visit from the big red-suited man himself. So if you’re looking for a fun thing to do Saturday, please head down to the library, and we’ll take you for a ride.

The Havre-Hill County Library will be closing at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, and remaining closed until regular hours resume Monday, Dec. 28. We will also be closing at 3 p.m. on Thursday. Dec. 31, and remaining closed until regular hours resume Jan. 4.

If you have any questions please give us a call at 265-2123, email us at [email protected], or just stop in.
