Tyler The Boy, who is accused of stabbing and beating his girlfriend with a hammer, had an intense discussion with his public defender before pleading not guilty to the six charges against him Wednesday morning in Hill County District Court.
The Boy was not happy before his arraignment hearing, which began at 8:51 a.m. It was unclear what the problem was, but Karen Alley, who was assigned to handle the case for the day, was heard telling the Boy that the public defender handling his case would not be there that morning. The Boy calmed down after his mother walked over and quietly spoke to her son.
"I'm sorry, Mom. I love you," he said, before sitting back down next to Alley.
The Boy's mother was also upset. She obstructed Havre Daily News' photographer from taking a picture of The Boy on his way out of the courtroom and asked whether or not "you guys have anything better to do?" once out of the courtroom.
The Boy's mother was told the news crew was doing their job and her son's case was not the only hearing Havre Daily News has reported on. She was clearly shaken.
"That's my son," she kept saying.
The Boy is charged with with two felony counts of assault with a weapon, three misdemeanor counts of partner or family member assault and a criminal trespass misdemeanor. The charges were brought against him after his girlfriend was hospitalized and an employee reported a possible assault.
The county attorney and defense have until Jan. 18 to file motions and request trial and hearing dates.
