Obituary - John Dominic Romain

John Dominic Romain was born south of Chester at the family homestead March 25, 1927, the last of eight children born to Josepha Kaufmann Romain and Frederick Romain.

He died on Dec. 10, 2015. He lived the last few decades in Great Falls, Montana.

He graduated from Chester High School in 1944, served in the U.S. Army, 1951-1953, married Meradel Wolf Vaughan in 1952, and had Angela and Wayne while living south of Chester and moved to Havre, where Rick was born. They lived in Havre from 1960-1974, and moved to Whitefish for a short time before he moved to Great Falls.

His last marriage was to Misha Makelovkoya. He has two grandchildren, Amelia and Kaley.

John, known as Johnny by others, loved farming and traveling and reading about the news of the world.

People who worked for him said he worked as hard as they did. If there was a problem, he could usually figure out a way to solve it.

Wayne says one of his favorite sayings was, "there's no such thing as can't."

He owned farms up north of Havre and south of Chester among other places. He ran cattle and raised wheat and did it quite well - something we'll always be very proud of. He didn't believe in being old, always lived life like he was still young.

He was always ready to tell a story and had a keen memory for people and events.

A joint service will be held with his sister at the Lutheran Church in Chester, Montana, on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m.
