Members of the Montana State University-Northern Collegiate Stockgrowers Association said their efforts to raise funds for a program to help veterans Wednesday night yielded strong returns.
“Many brave people came out in the wind and enjoyed the horse-drawn carriage rides and we also received a lot of in-kind donations,” said Mary Heller, director of the Career Center at Northern and adviser to the Collegiate Stockgrowers.
In all, the fundraising push brought in $300.
For a donation of $2 to Heroes and Horses, donors were given a ride in a horse-drawn carriage around the Holiday Village Mall parking lot.
Heroes and Horses is based out of Manhattan, Montana, and helps veterans adapt to postwar life through a therapeutic program of horseback riding and outdoor activities.
Heller said North 40 Outfitters with its $100 donation, along with Dennis Mitchell and Clinton and Margo Pankratz who provided their carriage and horses, contributed greatly to the effort.
The Collegiate Stockgrowers will continue accepting donations until Dec. 31. Checks should be made out to Heroes and Horses and given to Mary Heller at Northern.
Questions regarding donations should be directed to Heller at 406-265-3708 or [email protected].
