Havre Middle School's sixth-grade November Student of the Month is Emma Gillen.
Emma is the daughter of Carrie and Jerad Gillen. She has one brother. Emma plays the saxophone in the Havre Middle School band. Her other hobbies are art, reading and basketball. She is excited to play for the HMS Mustangs next year. Emma's teachers say she is a "little ray of sunshine." She is methodical with her work. She puts in the time and the effort. She is also very creative. Emma is polite, quiet and kind to others. One day Emma plans to attend the University of Montana.
Ethan Carlson represents seventh grade as November's Student of the Month. Ethan is the son of Andy and Christi Carlson and has one sister, Avery. He represents the HMS Mustangs on the football field as well as in the band. He also enjoys hunting, fishing and fly tying. Ethan's teachers say it has been a true pleasure teaching him. Every day Ethan enters the classroom with a smile and is not only ready to learn but also eager to learn.
The respect that Ethan shows to staff and students is noteworthy. Whether it just be passing in the halls or in the classroom, Ethan greets each person, staff or peer with a smile and respect. Each assignment or task that Ethan completes is done to the best of his ability. He shows positive leadership skills when he is working in a group. He is always ready to volunteer for whatever needs to be completed, and allows others to complete tasks that they may want to complete, too. Ethan understands that everyone has a voice in a group. Ethan adds a positivity to the learning environment in the classroom. His work ethic and kindness help to create a friendly work environment that helps make the classroom an enjoyable place to be. In the future Ethan will be going to college.
November Student of the Month in eighth grade is Jocelyn Ketchum. Jocelyn is the daughter of Joella Demontiney and Adam Ketchum. She has three siblings, Adam, Ariana and T'gan. Jocelyn is very involved at HMS and represents the Mustangs on the volleyball court, as well as in the jazz band, Spotlighters Choir and Spirit Club. She also enjoys writing and reading. Jocelyn has a tremendous work ethic and never-quit attitude. She comes to class ready to tackle any activity. She is always working to improve herself and works hard even if it is difficult.
Her positive attitude and great personality light up the classroom. She is friendly and helpful to everyone. Jocelyn's plans are to go to college and become a psychologist.
