Havre Daily News staff

People are invited to join in for the second year of a new event tied to Havre's annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony.

Before the tree lighting, Havre's Santa Run will head down 3rd Avenue in a 1-mile run or walk that awards prizes for the best costumes and race times.

Race-day registration begins at 4 p.m. at Norman's Ranch and Sportswear with the race starting at 4:30 p.m.

People are encouraged to pick up registration forms early from the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce office at 130 5th Ave. or from Page D4 of today's Havre Daily News, fill them out and turn them in at the Chamber office.

Adult participants are encouraged to dress up as Santa Claus or an elf. The younger racers are encouraged to dress up like one of Santa's elves.

The race can be done by individuals or groups.

$25 Chamber gift certificates will be awarded for Best Santa, Adult Elf and Child Elf costumes and fastest male and female racers, and Athlete's Foot is giving a $25 gift card to each of the race winners.

The Santa Run is being sponsored by BNSF Railway in partnership with the Havre Chamber.
