Olson back as Havre firefighter

Havre firefighter D.J. Olson is back on the job.

International Association of Fire Fighters announced Monday that Olson had been reinstated after having been suspended with pay on unspecified charges.

In a statement, Cody McLain, chair of the union’s Grievance Committee, said Olson had not been subject to any disciplinary action following the suspension.

“Apparently, the claims against him were unfounded and the investigation showed him not at fault for any wrongdoing,” McLain said in the statement.

Olson is president of the union’s local. He earlier received a written reprimand from Chief Tim Hedges over an incident between Olson and Assistant Chief Mel Paulson.

The union said the reprimand was retaliation because Olson had filed a human relations complaint against Paulson for acting unprofessionally. Union officials are trying to force the city into an arbitration hearing on that matter
