Kyle was born March 25, 1984, in Havre, Montana, to Daniel and Wanda (Big Leggins) Raining Bird. Kyle graduated from Harlem High School in 2002 as valedictorian of his class. He excelled in cross country by earning all-state honors, placing in the top 10 at the State B championships. He also played basketball for the Harlem Wildcats until his senior year when he was diagnosed with a seizure disorder that prevented him from finishing the season. He went on to attend the University of Montana to study health and human performance. Due to his illness he had to set his education aside and began to work at Wal-Mart. He loved Missoula and was an avid Griz fan. He met many friends and enjoyed his independence to the fullest; and his parents did all they could to fulfill his dream of living independently despite being ill.
Unfortunately, his illness began to affect his daily living at which time his parents decided it was time for him to move home. When he did come home, he brought home a very precious gift for his mother and father, a son, Hollis James. As a single parent, he was a very loving, patient and responsible father. His son came first in his life. The party life had to come to an end.
Kyle's hobbies included golfing, hunting, fishing, powwows, grass dancing, playing poker and Keno machines, and scratch tickets with Grandma Patsy.
Kyle is survived by his father and mother, Daniel and Wanda Raining Bird; brother, Ivan Daniel; sister, Nicole Henderson of Hays; his two beautiful and precious children, Hollis James Raining Bird and River Eve Raining Bird; a special godmother, Dr. Teresa Brockie of Maryland; three special aunties, Annette and Tracy Big Leggins (his second mom) and Georgia C'Hair; uncles, Aaron Big Leggins, Pendleton, Oregon, Shawn Big Leggins of Fort Belknap, Darryl Big Leggins of Hays; paternal grandmothers, Minnie Sangrey; grandmother, Patsy Raining Bird; uncles,, Gerry Raining Bird of Portland, Oregon, John and Donna Raining Bird of Box Elder, Greg Raining Bird of Rocky Boy, Pernell Raining Bird of Havre, Steve and Josh Raining Bird both of Rocky Boy; aunties, Susan Raining Bird of Great.
