Justice Lawrence Brown, the Havre man charged with brutally stabbing three Montana State University-Northern students in their Highland Park apartment, has agreed to plead guilty to three counts of attempted deliberate homicide and aggravated burglary.
Each of the attempted murder counts carries a potential 100-year sentence, while the aggravated burglary charge could mean a 40-year sentence.
Details of the arrangement between Brown and Hill County prosecutors were contained in a plea agreement filed in District Court.
Brown will appear in District Court at 3 p.m. Monday to formalize the agreement.
District Judge Dan Boucher can accept or reject the deal.
Police allege that Brown broke into the apartment of Northern students Alicia Schneid and Taylor Woolman through a kitchen window at about 4 a.m. May 2. Fellow Northern student Sam Mix, was visiting.
"I attempted to cause them death by stabbing Ms. Schneid, Ms. Woolman and Mr. Mix multiple times with kitchen knives causing them significant injury," he said in the legal paper.
He admits in legal papers that he used a kitchen knife to repeatedly stab the women, causing serious injury.
He then says in the document that he repeatedly stabbed Mix with a kitchen knife.
It was the last day of the school year. The apartment was packed up and the students were ready to move into a new apartment.
The brutal stabbing incident sent shock waves through the Northern campus and the Havre community.
Fundraisers to help pay medical costs were held and a GoFundMe account was set up for the victims.
