Snow in the forecast

Weather forecasters are predicting the Havre area will get “its first taste of winter” in the next 24 hours.

National Weather Service is predicting 1-2 inches of accumulation of snow by Wednesday. People living in the Bear Paws can look forward to 2-6 inches of snow, meteorologist Keith Jaszka said.

The weather service has issued a winter weather advisory for all of Hill County that will run through Wednesday morning, said Jaszka, who is with the NWS office in Great Falls.

Rain will be mixed with snow today, he said. Tonight, that will turn mostly to snow. There would be an accumulation of one inch by morning, he said.

That will mean that untreated roads may be slick for people driving to work Wednesday morning, he said.

“Winter is here,” he said.

Rain and snow will continue through Wednesday, he said, meaning the total accumulation may increase by Wednesday night.

It will be warmer on Wednesday, with a high of 45 degrees, he said, causing the snow to quickly melt when it hits the pavement.
