Girl Scout leaders needed everywhere, especially Harlem

From Girls Scouts of Montana and Wyoming

Girl Scouts is for every girl, everywhere.

However, right now, there are places without Girl Scout programs because there are no volunteers.

At this time in Harlem, there are girls anxious to begin or continue their Girl Scout journeys but aren’t able to until volunteers step forward.

Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming is asking women and men older than 18 in Harlem and the surrounding area to consider the skills and knowledge they possess that could be passed on to girls as a Girl Scout volunteer.

Whether people can give a day, a few weeks, or a whole year, it all starts with the volunteer. Volunteering opportunities with Girl Scouts are tailored to fit the volunteer’s calendar, skills interests. Every adult who volunteers for Girl Scouts brings new experiences to at least five girls.

For more information or to volunteer, please contact Kali Jean Tuckerman, Community Development Manager for north-central Montana at

Results of a 2014 poll indicate:

• Ninety-four percent of Girl Scout volunteers have made new friends in Girl Scouting.

• Ninety-two percent of Girl Scout volunteers feel that Girl Scouts helps them learn or share something new.

• Eighty-eight percent of Girl Scout volunteers believe their life is better because they volunteer with Girl Scouts.

• Eighty-eight percent of Girl Scout volunteers say that Girl Scouts lets them be active.

• Eighty-two percent of Girl Scout volunteers believe that Girl Scouts makes them feel special and important.

• Nearly two-thirds of Girl Scout volunteers — 62 percent — believe that their volunteer experience has helped them professionally.
