The Montana State University-Northern volleyball team is playing well right now. Unfortunately, the Skylights ran into the team perhaps playing the best in all of the Frontier Conference.
Thursday night in Lewiston, Idaho, Northern was swept by the Lewis-Clark State Warriors, by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-9. It was LCSC’s fourth straight win in league play, while the Skylights dropped to 2-7 in the Frontier.
But as lopsided as the final score looked, it didn’t indicate how well Northern played, especially in the first two sets. The Skylights battled the Warriors point-for-point in the first two sets of the match, but, in critical points, LC was just too much. And the Warriors put the Skylights away quickly in the final set.
Again, Northern played well, but LCSC was scorching on offense, hitting an incredible .367 for the match, while Northern hit just .087. Korrie Stephenson had 10 of MSU-N’s 25 kills, while Mikayala Virostek added five. Emily Russell had 20 assists and seven digs for Northern, while Jacy Vining tallied nine digs.
The Warriors, who improved to 7-3 in league play, got 14 kills from Treneisha Doyle and 12 more from Kennadie Clute.
Northern will remain on the road, playing at Carroll College on Saturday night.
