Last weekend was a good weekend for women’s athletics at Montana State University-Northern, and three MSU-N athletes were honored for that good weekend.
In volleyball, the MSU-Northern Skylights beat UM-Western last Saturday night in four sets, and two Northern players earned Frontier Conference Player of the Week honors as a result.
Northern junior Jacy Vining was named Frontier Defender of the Week for the second time this season. Vining averaged 6.25 digs per set. She was also perfect in passing and serving. She finished the match with a total of 24 digs.
Fellow junior Emily Russell was named Setter of the Week for the third time this season. In the win over Western, Russell averaged 9.25 assists and 3.5 digs per set. She finished the match with 36 assists.
Last Friday night saw the Northern women’s basketball team earn a 30-point victory over Mount Royal University in the Armory Gymnasium, and the Skylights were led by a huge performance from junior Natalee Faupel. That performance earned Faupel Frontier Women’s Player of the Week honors.
Faupel scored 31 points, had five rebounds and four assists. Faupel hit 9-of-11 field goals (82 percent) and was a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line.
The MSU-N women have this week off, while the Skylight volleyball team travels to Lewis-Clark State Thursday and Carroll College Saturday.
