Hi-Line Football Roundup: Chinook rolls, Bears stopped by DGS

On the final weekend of the high school football regular season, a pair of Hi-Line teams had a chance to finish perfect. Unfortunately, only one of those teams was able to get there.

On Saturday afternoon in Great Falls, the Chinook Sugarbeeters put the finishing touches on their perfect regular season by blasting Great Falls Central, 64-18. Chinook scored 48 points in the first half, and the Beeter defense was up to its usual standards, as the GFC offense could not get in track.

Senior quarterback Ian McIntosh threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns to Kenny Pruttis, while Tate Niederegger rushed for 117 yards and a score. McIntosh also scored three times on the ground, while Derek Bell hit the endzone twice.

The win gave the Beeters a perfect 8-0 record, and the Northern C champions will begin their quest for a Class C state championship this Saturday when they host Culbertson-Baineville in the first round of the playoffs.

DGS 35, Box Elder 34

Box Elder’s quest for a perfect season and a first-ever North Division Six-Man conference championship ended in heart break Saturday afternoon. The Bears had met every challenge so far in 2015, but at fellow unbeaten Denton-Geyser-Stanford, they came up one point short.

The Bears clung to a 34-29 lead late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game in Denton, but Kade Woodhall broke off a 19-yard touchdown run to give the Wranglers the lead, and that proved to be the final margin.

In Box Elder’s only defeat of the regular season, Brandon The Boy threw four touchdown passes, three to Shane Ketchum, while Bodis Duran gave the Bears the lead early in the fourth quarter with a five-yard touchdown run.

The Bears are now 8-1, but with the loss to DGS, they finish second in the North Division. Box Elder will host Jordan in the first round of the Six-Man playoffs this Saturday at 1 p.m.
