Cultures to be highlighted at Northern event
The Second Annual Festival of Nations will be held at Montana State University-Northern Saturday, highlighting Colombia and Colombian dancers.
The theme is "A Day in Colombia,"and the dance troupe, Mi Colombia Linda - My Beautiful Colombia - from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, will be performing traditional Colombian rhythms like cumbia, sanjuanera and joropo.
In addition to these dances, Northern student Nicola Ivanovic will be presenting information about his country, Serbia, and Ophelia Gustafson will be representing Hawaii on hula.
There will be country displays, vendors of some international items, international food for sale by the Northern's Diversity Committee, and a silent auction.
This festival starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Northern Sub Ballroom.
Entry for adults will be $3, and kids can attend for $1 each.
Children under age 5 attend for free.
There will also be free admission for people dressed in traditional international attire.
For instance, Cristina Estrada- Underwood will come dressed in Indian dress, even though she is of Mexican descent.
Proceeds will support Northern's diversity programs.
Tickets are on sale at Ben Franklin Crafts, Bear Paw Meats and Cowan Hall Room 308, the Multicultural Center.
