The second in a series of information sessions on the proposed $30 million, 20-year proposal to refurbish Havre streets will be held at city hall after tonight’s City Council meeting.
The plan calls for spending $1.5 million a year for the next 20 years to gradually bring the streets up to snuff.
City Council members who voted for the project say they have no trouble convincing people that the streets need repairs, but there is tremendous concern over the cost.
Council members who support the plan will explain the program, how it came about and how it would work.
The city has a PowerPoint presentation that explains the project.
The proposal to put the measure on the ballot was approved 7-1 by council.
Ward 4 council member Andrew Brekke had no quarrel about the poor condition of the streets, but said a tax hike of that measure would not be acceptable.
Voters will decide the future of the plan in the upcoming elections.
Ballots will be mailed out Wednesday, Oct. 14, and must be returned to the Hill County Clerk and Recorder’s office by Tuesday, Nov. 3.
