Crab boil packs the house for United Way

People jammed into the dining room at the Beaver Creek Golf Course Saturday night for a Crab Boil dinner.

It was the first event put on by Jennifer Nebel, the new executive director of the United Way of Hill County, which funds several nonprofits in the county.

There was not an empty seat in the place as the wine auction began. Some fine Montana wines were auctioned off, and a variety of other top-notch wines were sold, but the biggest laughter came when auctioneer Greg Dozier managed to collect $85 for four bottles of Boone's Farm fruit wine.

"We thought it would be fun," said Dana Springle, laughing.

She was one of five people who chipped in to buy the infamously cheap wine.

Dozier and a cadre of auctioneer helpers auctioned off wine and a variety of gifts. They secured $700 for a crab dinner for seven people.

The main course - the boiler crab dinner - was a little unusual for regular attendees of Havre fundraisers, but was a real hit.

The crab-eaters were given three tips on what to expect while consuming the delicacy:

• Wear your bibs

• If you are waiting for a fork, don't bother. Use your hands.

• Have an awesome time.

The crab boil marked the kickoff of the 2015-16 United Way fundraising campaign.
