MSU-N golfers wrap up the fall

The Montana State University-Northern golf teams are now done for the fall. The short season ended Tuesday with the second day of the Carroll College Classic.

The tournament, played at Green Meadow Country Club in Helena, featured a full field of Frontier Conference teams, as well as Miles Community College. And both the Lights and Skylights had solid showings.

The MSU-N women finished in fifth place with a total of 798 over 36 holes. Lewis-Clark State captured first-place honors at the tourney. Individually, Northern got an outstanding finish from Diana Ball, who finished 24th overall, and Whitney Bahrns, who was right behind her in 25th. Ball shot a two-round total 187, while Bahrns shot 191. Ball had the low round of the week for the Skylights with a 90 Tuesday. Ashley Hooper, Kirsten Bense and Carrigan Jones rounded out the MSU-N teams in Helena.

On the men’s side, the Lights placed eighth overall in the team competition. Northern finished the 54-hole tourney with a team score of 1,077, while LCSC won the meet with a score of 853.

Freshman Devin Bray was the Lights’ top finisher with a score of 224. In the final two rounds, Bray was stellar with scores of 72 and 73. Bray’s strong run gave him a Top 20 finish as he placed T16. Taylor Allery also placed 40th for the Lights, while Kevin Tibbetts and Tyler Tharp were tied for 48th.

There were also two local golfers in the field in Helena. Jordy Donoven, the top golfer at Rocky Mountain College, and a former North Star Knight, finished tied with Bray for 16th overall, while former Havre High golfer Wyatt Lindbloom placed 47th overall. Lindbloom, who shot 286 over three rounds, plays for Miles Community College.

The Lights and Skylights will now have the winter off before returning to action next spring with the Lewis-Clark State Invitational in April.
