Elbert was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Hingham, Montana, to Daniel and Nancy (Mullem) Dolph. He was raised and educated there, graduating from Hingham High School. He farmed with his father for a few years and then was drafted for the war. He went to Butte but was sent home to farm.

He married Delores Gross in 1958, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Havre. The couple made their home on the family homestead until 1975 when they built a home on the farm.  They remained in the home they had built until 1997, when they moved into their residence west of Havre. Elbert and Delores were true partners, both in farming and in life. They had a great deal in common and loved to fish together.

After Delores passed away in 2004, Elbert spent his time playing pool and socializing at the Havre senior center and shooting trap and gophers with Larry Fangsrude.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores; his brothers, D. Russell Dolph and Howard (Naydene) Dolph; his sisters, Phoebe (John) Alex and Jacqueline (Roland) Macy; and a nephew, Phillip Calvin Dolph.

He is survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews, especially his caretaker Daniel M. Dolph of Havre, and other extended family and good friends.
