With two tough tournaments, on two tough golf courses, the regular season came to an end for the Havre High golf teams this past week.
The Blue Ponies were in Billings on Thursday for the Billings Central Invitational, which was played at Eaglerock Golf Course, then HHS was in Laurel Friday for the Laurel Invite at the prestigious Laurel Country Club.
And in both tournaments, the Havre High boys put up strong showings.
In Billings, Havre placed third with a team score of 339. The Ponies were right behind champion Billings Central and second-place Laurel. Individually, senior Jerod Boles and Jeff Miller were solid, both shooting 81, which put them in the Top 5 in the all Class A event. Dustin Haas shot 87, while Aden Passon shot 90 and Kane Gabrielsen shot 93 to round out the scoring for the Ponies.
And Boles was just getting warmed up. On Friday, he fired a stellar round of 75 at Laurel to take home medalist honors. He also helped Havre push past both the Rams and Locomotives in the team standings, as the Ponies finished second behind only the junior varsity team from Billings West.
HHS’ team score of 334 included an 82 from Miller, an 85 by Haas, as well as a 92 from Gabrielsen. Passon rounded out the scoring for the Ponies with a 95.
Meanwhile, the Pony girls had some good moments as well on the road trip. On Thursday, HHS shot a 418, led by senior Randi Gabrielsen’s 92. Her score was good enough for an outstanding fifth-place finish individually.
Payton Howard shot 103, while improving freshman Teagan Fee shot a 109. Grace Litzinger shot 111, while Regan Lammers came in at 120.
At the difficult Laurel track, Howard paced the Ponies with a 106, while Gabrielsen shot 117. Fee came in at 122, Lammers at 127 and Litzinger at 131. Sidney would finish in first place in Billings, while the Laurel girls were first on their home course.
The Blue Pony junior varsity team also finished up their season Saturday with a home meet at Beaver Creek Golf Course. Havre, Lewistown and Browning were in attendance, and it was an outstanding round for junior Trey Hanson, who won the tournament with an 85.
Nick Keller placed third overall, shooting a 96, while Kyle Kirkpatrick shot 99. Ryan Bakke shot 102, Tucker Carlson came in at 104, Gavin Mosbrucker shot 106 and Hondo Owens shot 110 for the Pony boys.
On the girls side, Mackinzie Tilleman finished in first with a score of 120, while Kinzee Peterson was second at 127 and Marcee Murphy was third at 132.
Now, the HHS boys and girls varsity teams will prepare for this Saturday’s Central A Divisional tournament. The 18-hole tourney will be held in Lewistown, with the top two teams and top 15 individuals advancing to the state tournament Oct. 2-3 in Sidney.
