The Wahkpa Chu'gn Buffalo Jump archeaological site behind the Holiday Village Mall last weekend again brought people together to compete with weapons from ancient times.
The site each year holds a competition with atlatls, a weapon that uses a short handle to throw a javelin, or dart.
The bison kill site was used by people in the area starting about 2,100 years ago to kill bison, which were driven off the bluff and killed and butchered below.
At the annual competition, atlatl experts show people how to use the weapon, which predates the bow and arrow, and the competitors throw at a variety of targets.
