Hi-Line Football Roundup: Bears keep rolling; Beeters, Hawks cruise

If there were any doubts about whether the Box Elder Bears are legitimate contenders in Class C Six-Man football, there should not be any more. Not after the Bears destroyed North Division rival Sunburst.

The Bears, who rolled defending Six-Man state champion Geraldine/Highwood earlier this season, made another statement Saturday in Box Elder when they ran away from the Refiners in a 53-6 victory.

The Bears, who sit atop the North Division with a 3-0 record, have a high-flying offense, but against Sunburst, they won with old-school football.

Box Elder dominated on defense holding Sunburst to minus 22 yards rushing and 56 yards total. On offense, the Bears racked up 118 yards on the ground and finished the game with six rushing touchdowns. Jake Jones found the end zone twice on the ground, as did Bodis Duran, while Brandon the Boy and Shane Ketchum also hit pay dirt.

The Boy was equally impressive throwing the football as he finished the game with 157 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns, one to Ketchum and one to Pernell Morsette.

Sunburst grabbed the early lead when Treyton Pickering took a 27-yard punt return back for a score, but after that it was all Box Elder. The Bears scored 53 consecutive points, including 25 in the second quarter, all while holding the Refiners without an offensive touchdown.

The Bears will have another big matchup on tap this Saturday, when they play the North Star Knights (1-1) in an important North Division tilt. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m.
