There hasn’t been a lot of rain so far in the high school golf season. And while smoke-filled skies canceled the Havre Blue Ponies’ last trip to Browning, rain got in the way of the second scheduled tournament.
Last Friday, the Blue Ponies traveled to the East Glacier Golf Course where they were scheduled to play in the Browning Invitational. But a steady rain and cold weather forced the tournament, which featured both the HHS varsity and junior varsity teams, to be called after nine holes.
Still, official team scores were kept, and the HHS boys came out on top yet again in the varsity competition, which also featured host Browning, as well as Lewistown, Polson and Frenchtown.
The Pony boys finished with a nine-hole score of 166, and all five HHS individuals finished in the Top 10. Seniors Jeff Miller and Jerod Boles tied, each shooting a 40. The tiebreaker went to Miller, who wound up second, while Boles finished third.
Havre also a got a fourth-place finish from Dustin Haas at 42, while Aden Passon finished sixth with a 44 and Kane Gabrielsen was seventh at 47.
On the girls side, the Blue Ponies placed second with a team score of 200, while four of HHS’s individuals wound up in the Top 10.
Senior Randi Gabrielsen shot a solid round of 47, which put her in fifth place for the day. Fellow senior Payton Howard shot a 50 to finish in sixth place, while Grace Litzinger shot a 51 to place eighth.
Freshman Teagan Fee added a 52 to finish in ninth place, her highest finish of the season, while Regan Lammers rounded out the scoring for the Ponies with a 67.
This week, the Blue Ponies will hope for better weather when they travel to the Lewistown Invitational Friday. Next week, the Ponies will make the trek south for tournaments in Billings and Laurel.
