Diane Hamilton's home at 1120 11th St. is surrounded by ever-blossoming flowers in a profusion of colors and sizes.
Her sloping driveway borders are a mix of 35-year-old snapdragons, flox, violas, tiny mums, baby's breath, larkspur, verbena and many other flowers that reseed and sprout whenever they choose. She has added old-fashioned zinnias and a morning glory variety this summer to brighten up the east bed.
There are herbs intermingled throughout all her flowerbeds be it orange thyme, parsley, mint, cilantro and sage to name only some.
Perennials abound in the spring with poppies and daisies, liatris or blazing star are in bloom now along with
queen Anne's Lace.
There are large pots with fragrant pink blossomed Oleanders given to her as small cutting by some friends who wanted to bring some of the warmer southern climes home with them. Diane stores them in her home every fall and gets them back outside every spring for all of us to enjoy. Also, a gift from another friend is a bougainvillea which she winters in her house.
Diane has had some accomplishments with her ponderosa pine trees and a bit of nature taking its courses with some uprootings and breaking of pines in past years, she has a successful pine grown from a seed in her southwest corner.
"It does what it wants and I try to manage it. In our country, go with what grows naturally," she said of her yard, adding that if anyone wants cuttings from her plants, they can just call her. She has a bounty of beauty she is willing to share.
