Repair work starts at Masonic Temple

One block of 3rd Avenue in downtown Havre is likely to remain closed during the day for at least today as Lakeside Excavation workers repair the fire suppression system for the Masonic Temple building.

Lakeside was hired by the Masons to fix the fire suppression unit and repair the damage caused by the rupture of the system on Aug. 6.

The sidewalk in front of the building and the street were damaged by the flooding caused by the problems.

After the fire suppression system is repaired, Lakeside will have to place new cement on the street to fix the damage there. The street is cement, not asphalt, he said.

City Public Works Director Dave Peterson stressed that the cost of the project is being borne by the Masons, not city taxpayers, since the rupture took place on Masons' property.

Masons have been working on selling the historic building for some time.

Traffic is being routed around the block while the work is being done.
