The Havre High varsity golf teams are already creeping towards the halfway point in their 2015 season. And an addition to the 2015 schedule gave the Blue Ponies another chance to get some competition in.
The Blue Ponies were in Bozeman Monday for the Belgrade Invitational, an 18-hole tournament which featured the Central A's Belgrade, Lewistown and Livingston, as well as fellow Class A teams from Butte Central and Dillon. The tourney, which was held at Riverside Country Club, also saw a host of junior varsity players from Class AA teams like Bozeman High and Butte High.
And, in the end, the field was no match for the powerful HHS boys squad. The Ponies won their second tournament of the year with a team total of 324, and did it once again, with consistent play from the top of their lineup.
Junior Dustin Haas shot a round of 78 to place fourth overall, while senior Jeff Miller took fifth with a 79 and senior Jerod Boles was sixth with an 81. Aden Passon and Kane Gabrielsen rounded out the scoring with rounds of 86 and 96, respectively.
Monday was also a very strong showing for the HHS girls. The Ponies finished tied for second with a 433. Senior Randi Gabrielsen finished the tournament in third place with a 97, while Payton Howard was sixth overall with a 101. Freshman Teagan Fee shot a solid 114, while Regan Lammers came in at 121 and Grace Litzinger shot 125.
The Blue Ponies will get right back on the course when they head to the East Glacier Golf Course on Thursday for the annual Browning Invitational.
