Local Golf Report: Champions being crowned at Prairie Farms

From Tee to Green...

A lot is happening on the golf course these days, and, because summer is winding down, it’s champions being crowned.

A champion was crowned this past Sunday at Prairie Farms Golf Course and, with it, a new course record was established as the 2015 Men’s Club Championship was held.

Havre’s Matt Hedstrom, a former Havre High and Montana State University-Northern golfer won the event with a course-record round of even-par 72. Hedstrom dethroned two-time reigning club champion Jeremy Jensen, who still came in with a solid round of 74.

The tournament was one of the best stroke-play fields ever at Prairie Farms, with a large turnout and four different flights. So, congrats to Matt, and thanks to everyone who organized the event, and who showed up to play in it.

A champion was also crowned at Prairie Farms last Thursday night as the ladies wrapped up their 2015 playoffs. In the championship match, Northern Montana Hospital defeated Independence Bank 20.5-15.5 to claim the ladies league title for the year. The NMH team was composed of Terri Earl, Patti Nault, Kim Klein and Carol Culp, as well as Wendy Wertheimer. Congrats, ladies, on a great win, and congrats to all the ladies who played in league this season.

And another champion will be crowned later this week at Prairie Farms, as the men’s league concludes its 2015 season , Wednesday night.

The 16-team playoff started last Tuesday with eight teams advancing. In the first round, Vic’s Place beat D.A. Davidson 23.5-12.5, Korb Construction topped Gallery Lounge 17-10, Mariani Insurance bested Wagner Plumbing 20-16, Aaron’s beat Patrick Construction 22-14, Hole 19 defeated Michelob Light 18-.5-17.5, Master Sports took down defending champion Northern Edge 19-17, Havre Ford topped Rock Solid 18.5-17-.5 and Bear Paw Credit Union defeated Bing-N-Bob’s 18-.5-17.5.

The matches continue tonight with the semifinals. Havre Ford takes on Master Sports and Aaron’s squares off against Korb Construction. The 18-hole championship is scheduled for Wednesday.

There’s also a congratulations in order for Havre High golfer Tucker Carlson. At Monday’s Lewistown junior varsity tournament, Carlson scored his first-career hole-in-one. Carlson aced the par-3 sixth hole with an 8-iron, in the tournament that was attended by the Blue Pony junior varsity golf teams. Way to go, Tucker.
