Sarah E. Siebrasse died peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 21, at the age of 84.
A Butte native, Sarah was born to John and Charlotte Hopkins on April 18, 1931, and grew up in the Floral Park neighborhood. She attended Whittier Elementary and Butte High School. She received her nursing degree from Montana State College.
She met her future husband, Bob Siebrasse at the Montana State Fair where she was working at a booth. The couple was married in Butte on Dec. 20, 1952, and moved to Havre, where Bob taught at Northern Montana College and farmed in the Laredo and Big Sandy areas. Sarah worked as an OB nurse until the birth of their first child, Patty. When her youngest son, Tim, was in elementary school she returned to work at the clinic.
Sarah enjoyed her life in Havre as a wife, mother and nurse. She was an intelligent, thoughtful, generous and candid person who valued honesty, courage, kindness and loyalty. She and Bob instilled these values in their children and grandchildren.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and her youngest son, Tim.
She is survived by her daughter, Patty (Mike) Hamblock of Butte, and their children Greg and Sarah; her son, John Siebrasse of Big Sandy, and his daughter, Lindsey; and Paul (Lynette) Siebrasse of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and their children Breanna, Brynn, Kaden, and Natalie. Also surviving is her sister, Elizabeth Spiegle; niece, Amy (Fred) Vanalstyne; and nephew, Scott Spiegle, all of Anaconda. She is also survived by relatives Martha Apostle Lonner, and her husband and sons, and by Marcia Apostle Baker, and her husband and daughters.
After living in Havre for more than 60-years, she moved back to Butte to be closer to her family. Sarah carried a love of Butte in her heart and was quick to speak up for her hometown should anyone say anything negative.
Sarah left behind good friends in Havre, including Millie Kjorli and many others. On her return to Butte in 2014, Sarah lived at Big Sky Senior Living until her passing. She was grateful for friendly and attentive staff there and for the professionalism and care of Leanne McFarland, FNP and her staff at Butte Community Health Center. Sarah and her family were grateful for assistance from Lincare, Norco and Harrington Surgical Supply. The family would like to especially thank Highland Hospice (Julie, Theresa, Tracy, and Debbie) for making Sarah’s passing a comfortable and peaceful end to a well-lived life.
