This week's Yard of the Week takes us south to 51794 Sucker Creek Road in the Bear Paw Mountains.
Michael Mary and Tom Hulett's charming and beautiful yard is a mountain paradise. The rich mountain soil and creek water from Sucker Creek are a perfect combination to nourish the abundant and lush perennials and annuals in the yard.
As you approach the Hulett's home, you will see a tall lookout tower that was moved there from St. Mary's area in Glacier Park and two very large blue spruce trees that were planted 30 years ago.
Michael Mary loves her yard; the flowers, chicken statuettes, rusty artifacts, old wood and rocks of many shapes and sizes all adorn the landscape.
Her love for her yard is so apparent as you walk through the garden and into the yard listening to her tell a story about each item.
She has planted specific plants or placed special rocks as memories or in memory of special people in her life. Each rose bush has a special story. Several color combinations of vibrant flowers are seen as we stroll through the yard, each combination for a special reason. One area is dedicated to her father.
As people walk around the house from the sun plants to the shade-loving growth, they discover a fire pit and patio nestled in her shade garden of hostas, ferns, and Sumac trees. A totem pole and an antique lamppost accent the garden. A quaint pole fence surrounds the backyard and gives it a feeling of tranquility.
Hulett's have their own "little piece of heaven" right in their own yard.
