Ponies card good scores at tough Great Falls Invitational

If the Havre High golfers who played in the first day of the 2015 Great Falls Invitational felt like they got their season off to a good start, then things got even better in the second round.

Playing at Eagle Falls Golf Course Tuesday morning in Great Falls, several HHS golfers posted some outstanding scores, and none better than Blue Pony senior Jerod Boles. Boles torched the Eagle Falls track for an even-par round of 72, besting his Monday total at Meadowlark Country Club by nine strokes.

Boles’ outstanding round Tuesday vaulted him to the Top 10, as he finished with a two-day total of 153.

That score, along with a stellar 77 by fellow HHS senior Jeff Miller also helped the Blue Ponies finish in sixth place in the all Class AA tourney. Havre finished with a team score of 318 Tuesday, 13 strokes better than Monday. In all, the Ponies boys, who also got an 82 from Dustin Haas, 87 by Aden Passon and 88 from Kane Gabrielsen Tuesday, finished the tourney with a total score of 331. The Ponies finished only behind champion Billings West, Billings Skyview, Butte High, Missoula Sentinel and Helena High.

“The boys played well,” said HHS head coach Brett Gilman. “I was pleased with how they played for the first tournament.”

Havre sent just two girls to the Great Falls Invite, and senior Randi Gabrielsen made sure she improved from Monday to Tuesday. Gabrielsen shot 93 Tuesday at Eagle Falls, seven strokes better than her Monday round. Freshman Teagan Fee shot a 120 Tuesday, which was just her second round of her young high school career.

Now, the Blue Pony golf teams will get set to host the Havre High Golf Tournament Thursday morning at Prairie Farms Golf Course.
