Havre players shine in Belgrade

Although the high school softball season ended long ago, two Havre High players had the opportunity to get back on the diamond this past weekend at the Annual Veterans Memorial Classic in Belgrade.

The tournament features the top high school softball players from around the state and both Paige Henderson and Dani Wagner of HHS were in attendance. Henderson and Wagner, who played for the Navy team, played in a total of four games, posting a record of 1-3 and taking home third place.

In the first game of the tournament for the Navy team, Wagner belted a double and went 1-3, while Henderson was 0-3 in a 3-1 loss to the Marines team. Then, the Navy took on the Air Force team and again came up short by the score of 5-2. Henderson again was 0-3, while Wagner managed a hit for the second straight game.

In the third game of the tournament against the Army team, there was an offensive explosion. Wagner hit a home run and Henderson managed a single as the Navy scored 15 runs. Yet, it was not enough to win as the Army scored 17 runs to come away with the win.

In the final game of the tournament for the Navy, they did battle with the Air Force for third-place and came away with an 11-3 victory to finish in third. Neither Wagner nor Henderson managed to get a hit.

The Marines ended up winning the tournament as they defeated the Army 5-0 after a spectacular pitching performance from Conrad's Trisitin Achenbach.
