His appointment to a three-year term was announced Friday by Gov. Steve Bullock
The council establishes policies and priorities to enhance agricultural development in the state. It awards loans and grants offered through the Growth Through Agriculture program.
Jergeson served in the state Senate for most of his career in Helena. He also served eight years on the Public Service Commission, six as chair. He was defeated for re-election in a redrawn district by Kris Hansen in the 2014 election.
On the seven-member council, he joins two other Hi-Line residents, Verges Aageson of Gildford and Patricia Quisno of Harlem.
