Author talk with Emily Mayer

By Rachel Rawn

Havre-Hill County Library

Emily Mayer will be discussing her new book, “Havre,” at the Havre-Hill County Library Thursday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m.

This event is free and all members of the public are welcome. Emily will have copies of her book for sale at the event, as well as her previous book “Hill County.” She will be reading from her book, taking questions, and then signing copies. Light refreshments will be served.

“Havre” is part of Arcadia Publishing’s “Images of America” series, and it’s full of photos of historic Havre. Emily details Havre’s history, starting with its founding.

Tucked in a valley on the banks of the Milk River, Havre’s history is incredibly diverse. It was populated first by American Indian tribes, who lived here for centuries and successfully lived off what the land, waters and skies could provide. White settlers and other ethnic groups came later, bringing with them their own ways of life. Ladies and gentlemen arrived, looking for opportunities to build a new life and working to smooth out the rough reputation Havre had earned during its early days. Vice and virtue worked and lived alongside each other to create the largest community on Montana’s Hi-Line.

Emily lives and works in Havre. She received her Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Montana State University-Northern in 1999. She has been affiliated with almost every historical organization in Hill County, and is a well-known and respected local historian. In addition to doing her own research, she is sought out by others for information on local history.
