Raymond O. Sivertsen, 84, retired, from Lloyd, Montana, passed away June 24 of natural causes.
Ray was a ranch boy at heart, born in April 1931 and raised in the Bear Paw Mountains on the Sivertsen Ranch homestead. He attended a country school until high school, then attended and graduated from Chinook High in 1950. He married Caroline Murphy in 1951, and they had four children. They divorced in 1968.
He had a deep passion for eagles and loved the rodeos. He went to the Law Enforcement Academy in 1958 in Helena. He then took a job in Terry, Montana, as a patrolman and then transferred to Bozeman as a patrolman. He then moved his family to Great Falls and worked as a police officer.
In 1968 he changed careers to a truck driver and through the years worked different jobs as a salesman.
He was very active at the Eagles Lodge in Havre and held the president's position for numerous terms. He was a skilled craftsman and built a few houses through the years.
He retired in 1992 and moved to Belt and later to Texas for the warmer weather. Even though he was distanced from his children, grandchildren and family, he truly loved them.
He is survived by his children, Carol Diamond of Lakewood, Washington, Cheryle French of Great Falls, Clancy (Lori) Sivertsen of Belt, and Colleen (Roger) Hill of Black Eagle; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Duchscher; and brothers Robert Sivertsen of Havre, Walter (Judy) Sivertsen of Big Sandy and Howard Sivertsen of Bear Paw Ranch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Anna (Holst) Sivertsen; brothers Clarence Sivertsen and Leonard Sivertsen.
Cremation has already taken place in Del Rio, Texas. There will be a graveside memorial Aug, 1 at the Kuper Memorial Cemetery in Chinook, with a reception following at the Eagles Club in Chinook.
