A fun run to celebrate the start of the college school year and to raise funds for Montana State University-Northern’s new cross-country program will be held Saturday, Aug. 22.
A one-mile walk, 5K run and 10K run will be held throughout the city and areas south of the city.
Chad Spangler, head coach of the cross-country team, said he hoped that the walk and run would be a good way to open the school year and to encourage healthy habits.
Spangler on Monday asked for and received permission from Havre City Council to have the run on city streets.
Under questioning from City Council member Pam Hillery, Spangler said the team is ready to go.
The men’s team has enough people to compete, he said, and he is looking for two more members on the women’s said.
Spangler said Police Chief Gabe Matosich had approved the plan, and the Montana Department of Transportation had agreed to close off part of 5th Avenue for the walkers and runners.
Barricades will be set up along the way to make sure that motorists don’t drive into the path of the runners.
