North Stars earn key split

The postseason is now for the Havre North Stars American Legion baseball club. After a strong last game of the regular season, the North Stars carry some momentum into this week’s district tournament.

Havre was in Vauxhall Sunday for the final two Northern A District games of the season, and the North Stars managed a split with the Spurs, which vaulted them into a three-way tie for first in the final district standings.

The North Stars needed a sweep of the Spurs to claim the district title, but fell in the first game of the doubleheader, 10-0. Still, Havre bounced right back to end the season with a 5-2 win in the nightcap.

The win pushed Havre’s district record to 15-9 which tied the North Stars with Lethbridge and Vauxhall for the regular season title. Medicine Hat also figures into the tiebreaker, which will be determined later today. The No. 1 seed at the upcoming Northern A District tournament will be determined via today’s tiebreaker. Only the top seed in the tournament has a bye in the first round, and the bye is crucial for all of the team’s pitching staffs.

The Northern A District Tournament will run Wednesday through Sunday in Lethbridge. The top two teams from the Northern A will advance on to the American Legion A State Tournament July 29-Aug. 3 in Kalispell.
