Havre Trails has been named along with 59 other Montana trail organizations, communities and land-managing agencies by Montana State Parks as a recipient of a federal Recreational Trails Program grant.
According to a press release from the parks system, the Havre Trails group will receive $15,000 for their work to renovate US Bank Park to include a solid trail. The park is on 11th Street West close to Montana State University-Northern.
The project has been discussed by the fairly young organization, which recently acquired its not-for-profit status, since its origins.
Havre Trails President Lindsey Bennett said she and Club Secretary Sammie Rybicki are excited they were chosen as a recipient.
“(We) are thrilled about the news and grateful for all of the pledges and letters of support from the community that contributed to the quality of the application,” Bennett wrote this morning.
The group asked for $20,000 for the project, but since there were so many applicants to the program, many got less than they asked for.
“We’ll be receiving $5,000 less than requested, so while we wait for funding to be release this fall, we’ll need to do some fundraising and seek out in-kind donations, such as gravel, labor, or equipment use,” Bennett wrote.
