From Tee to Green...
It was one of the biggest weeks of golf the Hi-Line will see all summer. And, once again, Rotary Week at Prairie Farms was just as big a hit as Shark Week was.
The week began with the annual Rotary Youth Camp, which saw 40 kids attend this year. The Rotary Youth Camp has become a popular summer sports camp, and as an avid golfer, I'd like to add my thanks to Jimmy Kato and Doug Sheppard for putting on such a great event. Also, a special thanks to those that helped with the camp, including Kyle Sheppard, Jeremy Jensen, Matt Hedstrom, Mark Kato, Carrie Kato and Chad Spangler.
On the weekend, the attention turned to big tournament golf as Sunday was the annual Rotary Blast tournament. And once again, a tough golf course and high winds made for another challenging test for the two-person teams playing in the modified stableford scoring tournament. The winning team Sunday was the duo of Shane Patacsil and Cody Matfeldt, who finished at +20. Second place went to the tandem of A.J. Lamere and Chris Monteaux at +15, while Scott Miller and Mike Erickson were third at +10.5.
As always, the tournament was a huge success and thanks to everyone from the Rotary Club, Prairie Farms and all the others who help to make it such a great tournament.
On the golf league front, the men's league action was back last week. On Tuesday night, Vic's Place earned high-team honors with 21.5 points. The team was made up of Paul Dees, Kerry Ward, Tom Haas and Bill Schilling. Randi Mudge was low gross with a 37, while Barry Zanto was low net with a 31.
Last Wednesday Gallery Lounge score a whopping 25.5 points behind the stellar round of Matt Hedstrom, who fired a sizzling 4-under par 32. The rest of the team was made up of Miller, Erickson and Nate Baltrusch. Mark Majeres was also low net with a 28.5.
In ladies league last Thursday, Columbia Grain scored 29 points to earn high team. The squad was composed of Raelynn Howard, Joyce Donoven, Anna Toner and Maria Borlaug. Sarah Spangler shot an outstanding, even-par 36 for low gross, while low net was tied between Maxine Munson and Ashley Hooper, each at 32.
And last week in the Chinook Golf League, Lane Seymour and Danyl Acosta each shot 38 for low-gross honors, while Acosta was low net with a 28.9.
