Fake cop tries to enter people's homes

Someone dressed in black and wearing a mask is posing as a police officer and attempting to enter the homes of city residents.

Havre police urge people to beware of any such suspicious activity and to promptly call police.

Police said the incidents occurred Thursday night, one at 17th Street West, the other at 16th Street West.

The officer claimed to have a search warrant and at one of the residences waved something that looked like a badge.

The suspect was able to enter one of the residences and asked the occupants about drug activity at the home.

The suspect ran away when the homeowner asked about the man’s identity and questioned whether he was really an officer.

Havre police said the suspect will knock on the door and yell “search warrant.”

He carries a flashlight and some type of badge. No weapons have been reported.

The suspects is between 6-foot and 6-foot 3 inches tall. He wears a black hoodie that he pulls up over his head. He wears black pants, black boots and a mask. The suspect seems to alter his voice.

Police Chief Gabe Matosich urged residents to lock their doors and not to let anyone into their home unless they know them.

If people see anyone resembling the suspect, they should immediately call 911,, the chief said.
