Douglas Vance, an associate with Heberly Associates, will run for Havre City Council from Ward I.
Vance filed with the Hill County Clerk and Recorder’s Office on Tuesday, setting up a contest with Ed Matter, the retired general manager of KXEI.
Vance said he was approached to run by someone who said council could use his abilities and his business sense.
He said he thought it over and decided it was something he could do.
At his job, he handles the accounting for his company as well as being an engineer.
He has been active in the Knights of Columbus and St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church.
For the first time, city elections will be nonpartisan this year. Voters decided not to nominate candidates by party.
One City Council member will be elected from each ward this year.
Except for the Ward 1 contest, one person has filed in each ward so far. They are:
• Incumbent Brian Barrows is running in Ward 2
• Caleb Hutchins is seeking the Ward 3 seat being vacated by Allen “Woody” Woodwick.
• Incumbent Andrew Brekke is seeking a third term in Ward 4.
