Local Golf Report: Rotary week is coming to Prairie Farms

From Tee to Green...

I know this is a day late, but please forgive me if I still had Chambers Bay and the U.S. Open on my mind the last few days. And I admit, I’ll probably have Chambers Bay and the 2015 U.S. Open on my mind for a while; I’ll probably reference it in many of these columns to come.

But alas, I am back in Havre, and last week was another good one on the local golf scene.

Last weekend, the annual Natalie Patrick Foundation Scramble was held at Prairie Farms, and as usual, not only was a good time had by all, but the tournament annually raises money for some outstanding groups. So once again, well done to all who were involved in what has become an important event on the local tourney schedule.

Next on the slate at Prairie Farms is Rotary week. First up will be the annual Rotary Youth Golf Camp, which will be held July 7-9, while the Rotary Blast Tournament will be played July 12. To sign up for either of these events, call the Pro Shop at Prairie Farms.

Meanwhile, men’s league golf at Prairie Farms started the second half of its season last week. Last Tuesday night saw Stockman Bank scored 24.5 points to earn high-team honors. The team was composed of Chuck Wimmer, Dave Herman, Gene Kenny and Jerry Wagner. Jeremy Jensen, prior to leaving for his honeymoon, which was the U.S. Open, fired an outstanding 2-under par 34 for low gross, while Perry Ahern was low net with a 30.

Keeping it all in the family, last Wednesday night saw Jeff Jensen earn low gross with a 2-under round. Barry Zanto was low net with a 30, and he was part of the D.A. Davidson squad that earned high team with 23.5 points. The rest of the team was made up of Jim Wirt, Ric Floren and Dave Herman.

In ladies league last Thursday, Scharfe Kato & Co. scored 26.5 points to earn high-team honors. The team was made up of Davilyn McCormick, Natalie Strissel, Janis Fisher and Paula Sheppard. Sarah Spangler was low gross with a 38, while Julie Mariani was low net with a 30.

And in Chinook men’s league action last week at the Chinook Golf Club, Aero/Hole 19 and Havre Muffler and Brake lead the way in the standings, while Troy Azure was low gross with a 37 and Joe Schupe was low net with a 30.0.
