Highway 2 Association spring meeting set for June 26

Press release

The Highway 2 Association spring meeting will be held Friday, June 26, at the Elks Club in Wolf Point.

The meeting will convene at 11 a.m. and adjourn by 3 p.m.

The agenda will include a Legislative Report with the primary issue being infrastructure funding that was not approved by the Legislature.

Association President Bob Sivertsen said, “Montana cannot grow the economy without an adequate transportation system and infrastructure. The Association has worked tirelessly to get funding for upgrades to (U.S.) Highway 2 that would help offset the impacts of energy development. We are disappointed that the Legislature elected to leave Helena without addressing those needs.

“We are asking county commissioners, mayors and the public to join the Association in requesting the Legislature to schedule a special ssession to address the issue,” Sivertsen added. “We can’t wait two years.”

Other agenda items will include an update on the highway bill that’s being considered in Congress, Highway 2 Projects, reports on studies and an overview of the economy in the region.

There will be a no-host lunch.

People are asked to RSVP by 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at [email protected] or calling 406-262-2346.

“The public is invited to attend,” Sivertsen said. “We try to move the association meetings around in the No. 2 corridor so the people have an opportunity to participate and to weigh in on issues of importance to them.”
