Planning underway for 2015 Fossil Festival

Every five years, Havre High School grads gather for all all-class reunion they call the Fossil Festival.

They will be doing that Labor Day weekend, when alums are urged to come back, chat with friends they haven't seen in years and joined in the planned activities.

The festivities will be centered at the Great Northern Fairgrounds, said Cheryl Morse and Marge Dippmeier, two of the alums involved in organizing the reunion.

Traditionally, people who have left Havre return to meet up with friends who have remained in town, they said.

Morse said organizers are going "back to the basics."

People will gather at the fairgrounds Friday, Sept. 4, and Saturday Sept. 5 to meet up with old friends and chat.

Saturday night, there will be a dinner.

The entire weekend costs $30, they said.

They asked people to understand that everyone should purchase the $30 ticket, even if they don't plan to stay for the entire weekend.

Besides the cost of the food, the group has to rent the fairgrounds, get insurance and pay for a lot of incidental expenses, they said.

This year, the Havre Public Schools Foundation has taken over the sponsorship of the event, though many people are volunteering to help out.

Even though the school district's foundation is sponsoring the event, it is open to graduates of Havre Central High School, because they are part of the Havre community and they remember the good old days, the women said.

If people from other Hi-Line communities want to take part, they are invited to join in.
