Montana Farmers Union discussing warmer climate

Big Sandy’s Merrill wants to hold discussions

\BILLINGS (AP) — The Montana Farmers Union has started publishing reports about how the warmer climate is affecting the state’s agriculture.

The reports are based on research by Montana State University.

Farmers Union President Alan Merrill of Big Sandy said that the group is trying to educate people about global warming and if there is something that can be done about it by farmers and others.

Merrill plans to hold discussions about global warming at community meetings over the next several months.

He says some farmers may not be receptive, but he says the focus is moving the discussion beyond the political debate to what farmers can agree on.
