Summer is fast approaching. Here at the library we are preparing for our family summer reading program. The theme this year is “Every Hero has a Story.” The reading program will kickoff with signup Wednesday, June 10, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the children’s area of the library. We will be making a superhero Father’s Day craft.
If you cannot make it to the kickoff, do not worry; we will continue with signups till July 10 at 5 p.m.
The Scholastic Book Fair will be in the meeting room from Wednesday, June 10, through Saturday, June 13, during regular library hours.
You can also purchase books on-line at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/havrehillcountylibrary. All proceeds go to the expansion of the children’s section of our library.
Since we are having a superhero summer, we will have guest heroes each week, including the Border Patrol, National Guard, Jessica Sheehy, Highway Patrol and Bill Chambers.
Prizes will be given for the top three readers in each category. Those who complete their reading goal will get a Super Hero Flying Monkey. There will be a weekly drawing for children who visit the library, so do not forget to ask for a ticket whenever you stop in to see us! You can earn a ticket for the raffles up to once a day Prizes are donated by Frank Leeds Construction, Ford Motor Company, BNSF Railway Co. and the Friends of the Library.
Our summer reading has expanded and will include a Young Adult book club on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday’s will still be Books and Babies at 10:15 a.m. and Story Time at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. We will have a Library Matinee on Thursday’s at 2:30 p.m. The movies will include “Dolphin Tale 2,” “Big Hero 6,” “Book of Life,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” “Lego Movie,” “Mr. Peabody and Sherman” and “Box Trolls.”
Friday morning’s we will have Legos and Robotics from 9:30 to 11 a.m. On June 19 there will be a Lego competition hosted by Relay for Life.
Our reading wrapup will be an Extraordinary “Community Heroes Carnival” July 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reading completion prizes will be passed out at this time. Some of the activities will be fish pond, pie in the face, darts, baseball throw, pick your nose, and bean bag toss. Some of the guests will be U.S. Border Patrol, Havre Fire Department, Highway Patrol and Mercy Flight.
There will be a barbecue lunch of hot dogs, chips and a drink between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. If you are looking for dessert join in the cake walk to win a cupcake from Henny Penny’s
