Black Powder spring shoot held for 36th year

Eighty-nine shooters participated in the 36th annual Bullhook Bottoms Black Powder Club Spring Shoot held May 23-25 at historic Fort Assinniboine south of Havre. The weather cooperated and was beautiful for three days giving excellent shooting conditions with some wind at times and temperatures in the high 70's.

Cameron Griggs, Havre, captured the overall aggregate trophy with a score of 185 in five matches including 25-yard offhand, 50-yard offhand, 100-yard offhand, 50-yard cross sticks and 100-yard cross sticks. Griggs also took the Cross Stick Aggregate with 77 points.

The pistol aggregate went to Dick Hanson, Havre, with 157 points on two targets, 25-yard and 50-yard both scoring a possible 100 points each. Hanson also won the offhand aggregate with 113 points on three targets, 25-OH, 50-OH and 100-OH.

The women's aggregate was claimed by Lacey Huseby, Havre, with 113 points on three targets, 25-OH, 50-OH and 50 cross sticks.

In the blackpowder cartridge events Rick Herzog, Great Falls, won the men's cartridge aggregate with 174xxx on four targets; women's aggregate went to Kathy Lynch, Havre, with 144 and the junior aggregate was won by Nick Molitor, Havre, with 168x. The cartridge events consist of four targets including 25-yard offhand, 50-yard offhand, 100-yard offhand and 100-yard cross sticks

Tom Brown, Havre, won the primitive aggregate event with a score of 155. The event includes 20 different fun shots such as cut a playing card, cut the strings, split the ball on ax head, frogs on a log shot from a canoe and several long range shots.

The long-range aggregate for blackpowder cartridge was won by Donald Klinko, Malta, with a string of three hits on the three farthest targets. This event consists of an offhand target at 270 yards and four cross stick targets a pig at 320 yards, turkey at 350 yards, ram at 368 yards and buffalo at 580 yards.

Hawk and Knife throw for adults was won by Daivid Molitor, Havre and for juniors Leyton Shennum, Havre, was the winner.

The Frying Pan Throw for women was won by Kaci Hipple, Havre, 59 feet; seniors division went to Sheila Bender, Marrysville, 36 feet; juniors division was won by Tabitha Davey, Havre, 43 feet 8 in.; pee wee division went to Berlyn Griggs, Havre, 18 feet.
