Local Golf Report: Ladies tee it up for a great cause

From Tee to Green...

It’s tournament time at Prairie Farms Golf Course, and kicking things off will be one of the most important tournaments on the Hi-Line.

The Havre Women’s Golf Association is hosting the annual Women Golfing for a Cure for Cancer Tournament Saturday at Prairie Farms.

This tournament is a way to support those battling all forms of cancer. Last year, the association raised approximately $20,000 to assist in defraying the costs associated with cancer to anyone along the Hi-Line who is making the courageous battle with any type of cancer.

As someone who loves the game of golf, and has had cancer affect my family more than once, I want to take this opportunity to once again thank the ladies for all that they do for this great cause. It matters to so many of us, and it’s a tournament that’s very special to so many people in our community.

Oh yeah, I’ll be the guy sitting on No. 6 fairway Saturday, ready to hit anyone’s ball that wants me to. And, I might as well get this out of the way, I make no guarantees about my golf swing. But, like the tournament itself, it’s for a great cause, and I’m excited to be involved once again.

Speaking of the ladies, last Thursday’s league action at Prairie Farms saw Schubert Agency score 25 points to take high-team honors. The team was composed of Susie LaSalle, Katie Beck, Judi Adams and Susan Benner. Carrie Kato fired a 41 for low gross, while Dayna Springer was low net with a 29.5.

In men’s league last Tuesday, Northern Edge scored 21 points to take home high team. The team was made up of Nate Baltrusch, Kyle Sheppard, Christian Oberquell and Chad Spangler. Matt Hedstrom was low gross with a 1-over par 37, while Dan Wagner was low net with a 29.5.

Last Wednesday night saw Master Sports rack up 24.5 points to earn high-team honors. The team was composed of Jim Kirkpatrick, Barry Kato, Doug Sheppard and Wayne Bolken. Jordy Donovan shot an excellent 34 to earn low gross, while Kerry Olson was low net with a 29.5.
