HHS Athletes of the year announced

Havre High held its season-ending awards night Monday night, and during the ceremony, the Blue Pony Athletes of the Year were announced.

The HHS Female Athlete of the Year award went to Morgan Mazurkiewicz. The senior standout played three sports at HHS this past school year, with basketball being her most prevalent. Mazurkiewicz earned Class A All-State honors for the Pony basketball team, which reached the Class A state tournament, and won its fourth straight Central A championship. Mazurkiewicz led the Central A in scoring, and is now headed to Rocky Mountain College to play hoops for the Battlin' Bears.

Mazurkiewicz also ran cross country for the Ponies in the fall and was an All-Conference softball player for HHS this spring.

The HHS Male Athlete of the Year went to two-time state champion wrestler Jace Billy. Billy captured his second straight Class A championship in wrestling back in February, also helping the Ponies to their third straight Class A team title. Before that, the senior was a standout defensive end for the Ponies on the football field. He earned Class A All-State honors and will play in the Montana East-West Shrine Game next month.

Billy is also headed to Montana State University-Northern to play football for the Lights this fall.

Havre High also recognized more than 50 three-sport athletes at the ceremony, and senior Gunnar Aageson was honored for having lettered in three sports all four years of his high school career.

Awards in track and field and tennis were also handed out Monday night.
